As we come to the end of another busy term, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge what a great term it has been. There has been so much learning, alongside plenty of fun, laughter and opportunities for our tamariki to get involved in the many different experiences that make school life so special.

I am incredibly grateful to our wonderful staff for everything they do for our children and our school. I feel very fortunate to work alongside such a caring, committed and hardworking team. Their support of one another, their willingness to go the extra mile and the warmth and humour they bring to each day genuinely make coming to work a pleasure.

Thank you also to our whānau and wider community for your continued support. Schools are at their best when we work together, and I really appreciate the many ways you contribute to and support One Tree Point School.

I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned break, with time to slow down, recharge and enjoy time with family and friends. Have a safe and happy holiday, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for Term 4.

A huge congratulations to Whaea Gemma on completing her Master of Contemporary Education degree. This is a fantastic achievement, made even more impressive by the fact that Gemma has completed her study alongside the many demands of her Deputy Principal role. Her commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth is something to be very proud of.

Well done, Gemma. We are incredibly proud of you and all that you have achieved.

Market Day was an amazing success! It was fantastic to see the huge variety of stalls and the creativity, enthusiasm and teamwork shown by our tamariki.

There was so much valuable learning taking place behind the scenes and on the day, with students working collaboratively to develop their ideas, design products, consider marketing and pricing, and put their financial literacy skills into practice. It was a wonderful example of authentic, engaging learning.

A special thank you to Whaea Gemma, Whaea Aimee and Matua Isaac for being such good sports. Your willingness to take part in the ‘Pie in the Face’ added plenty of laughter and fun to the day and was certainly a highlight for our tamariki!

A huge thank you to all our whānau for the support you gave your tamariki as they prepared for Market Day, and to everyone who came along to support the event. Your involvement helped make the day such a success.

The La Pointe Committee has been in touch to express some concern about the safety of children entering the golf course and riding bikes on the course.

We would really appreciate families reminding their children that the golf course is an operational facility and is not a safe place for recreation. Golf balls can travel at high speed and pose a real risk to anyone who is on the course unexpectedly.

Please help us by having a quick chat with your children about staying off the course and using other spaces for biking and play. We appreciate everyone working together to keep our community safe.

A reminder that Thursday 23 October will be a Teacher Only Day.

Our teaching staff will be spending the day working together to unpack the new curriculum and assessment requirements, and to continue developing a shared understanding of what these changes will look like in practice at One Tree Point School. This will be an important opportunity for teachers to collaborate, plan together and ensure we are well prepared to support our learners as the new curriculum continues to be implemented.

There will be no classroom teaching on this day; however, CARE Club will be open for families who require childcare.

What a night! 

A huge thank you to the incredible local businesses, organisations and members of our community who supported our Quiz Night.

We were absolutely blown away by the generosity shown through sponsorship, donations, prizes, vouchers, services and offers of help. Events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without a community that gets in behind our kura.

Every contribution, big or small, helped make the evening a success and supports opportunities for our tamariki.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who contributed, attended and supported the event. We are very fortunate to have such a generous and supportive community behind Te Ara Kahika – One Tree Point School.

A huge thank you to a very special group of people — our wonderful Reading Angels — who generously give their time every single week to support our tamariki with their reading.

Our Reading Angels bring such professionalism, consistency and genuine care to this role. The relationships they build with our children are incredibly special, and they are very much valued by both our teachers and students.

The impact goes well beyond reading. In some of our classes, we have children who are genuinely excited to come to school because they know, “My Reading Angel is coming today.” That sense of connection, encouragement and having another adult who believes in them is incredibly powerful.

We are so grateful for the time, care and commitment our Reading Angels give to One Tree Point School. Thank you — you make a real difference.

A group of students from Paraoa represented One Tree Point School at the Touch Tournament held at Kensington Sports Park this week.

Over the past five weeks, the team has been training hard with Ari and his team, and it was wonderful to see all that preparation come together on the day. The team played four games, winning three and narrowly losing their final game by just one point.

Congratulations to Hunter, Heinrich, Ashley, Aria, Taylah, Luke, Jasper, Niko, Bodhi, Vann, Taumauri and Quin. You represented our school with skill, determination, great teamwork and our CARE values. We are very proud of you all.

A huge thank you to Ari and his team for coaching and preparing our players, and to Whaea Lianne, our school sports coordinator, for all the organisation behind the scenes. Thank you also to Dave and Tracey for helping with transport, team management and supporting our players throughout the day.

Finally, thank you to all the parents and whānau who came along to support and cheer on the team. Your support is always greatly appreciated.
