Kia ora ē te whānau,

As we come to the end of another busy and successful term, we are looking forward with excitement to hosting the Bream Bay Community Matariki Festival next week. This special event is always a wonderful opportunity to come together to celebrate Matariki through kapa haka, art, and music. We hope you are able to join us for this important celebration.

The Matariki Art Expo, featuring artwork created by tamariki from local ECEs and kura across Bream Bay, will also be open for viewing next week. We are incredibly proud of the creativity and talent of our young artists, and details about viewing times can be found below.

As the term draws to a close, we would like to thank our students, staff, and whānau for your ongoing support and contribution to our school community. We wish everyone a safe, restful, and refreshing term break and look forward to welcoming everyone back next term.

Our Beautiful New Website
A heartfelt thank you to Serena and John Star-Leonard from Website Alchemy for creating our beautiful new school website — completely free of charge!

This has been an extraordinarily generous donation of their precious time and expertise, and we are so grateful for everything they have done for our school community. We absolutely love our new look website. It captures our kura so beautifully and provides a welcoming, professional space for our whānau and community.

Thank you both so much for all of the time, care, and hard work you have put into this project. Your support and generosity are deeply appreciated.

Hāngi - Includes Fry Bread!
A huge thank you to everyone who has generously donated kai towards our hāngi for next week’s Bream Bay Community Matariki Festival. Your support has made a significant difference and is greatly appreciated. Community events like this are only possible because of the generosity and collective effort of our whānau and wider community.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we will be including fry bread with all of our hāngi!

We still have hāngi tickets available for purchase from the school office. Tickets will also be available on the day, but we encourage you to get in early to avoid missing out!
Matariki Art Expo - Open to the Public

The Matariki Art Expo features beautiful artwork created by tamariki from across the Bream Bay and celebrates creativity, culture, and our shared community connections.

The Art Expo will be open to visitors:

  • Monday–Wednesday: 8:00am–9:00am and 2:00pm–3:00pm
  • Thursday: Open all day before and during the Matariki Festival

We warmly invite our whānau and wider community to come along and enjoy the incredible work of our young artists.

Matariki Rotations - Parāoa
This week our Parāoa students have also loved learning more about Matariki through a range of  rich learing opporunities during their rotation day. A huge thank you to Holly, marine biologist, for sharing her knowledge and passion for life in our oceans, and to Ari Carrington for bringing a tohorā (whale) into school and teaching our children about these incredible taonga of the moana and David for teaching tamariki all about taonga Pūorō.

A special thank you also to Jeanette and Huia, who did an amazing job cooking parāoa parai (fry bread) with over 45 children in a very hot staff room!

We deeply value our connection with Patuharakeke and are so grateful for the ongoing support, knowledge, and aroha you continue to share with our kura. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.

Holiday Programme – Limited Spaces Available!

Our Holiday Programme is filling quickly, but we still have a few spaces available for the upcoming term break. This is a great opportunity for children to enjoy a range of fun, engaging activities in a safe and caring environment.

To book a place, please email admin@otp.school.nz. Be quick to secure your child’s spot before spaces run out!

Ngā mihi nui
